Andrea Montanino, Director General, Department of Treasury, ITALIAN MINISTRY OF ECONOMY AND FINANCE
Andrea Montanino is currently Director General at the Italian Treasury in charge with several economic policy initiatives. Among others, the Fondo Italiano di Investimento, the Banca del Mezzogiorno and initiatives to support SMEs. After obtaining his Ph.D. in economics from Università di Roma “La Sapienza” and his M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, he was senior economist at Confindustria, the Italian Prime Minister’s Office and the European Commission (1998-2005). He served also as economic adviser of the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance. He published several papers on labour economics and public finances and is currently lecturer in Political Economy at the LUISS University of Rome.

Anna Gervasoni is General Manager of AIFI – Italian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association - the Association that represents institutionally the most important private equity e venture capital players. She is independent Board Member of Fondo Italiano di Investimento Sgr SpA. Mrs. Gervasoni is also Professor of Corporate Finance at Carlo Cattaneo University of Castellanza (VA) – LIUC. At the same University she is Director of Master in Merchant Banking, President of Private Equity Monitor (PEM®) and Director of Research Center in Transport and Infrastructure, specialized in Project Financing. Francesco Aldorisio, Director, AKINA PARTNERS
Francesco joined Akina (formerly LODH Private Equity) in early 2007. His main areas of responsibility are direct co-investment across Europe and fund investments in the geographic regions of Italy and southern Europe. Prior to joining Akina, Francesco worked in the Corporate M&A team of ABB where he was managing the acquisition pipeline of the Automation Products Division. Francesco’s responsibility was spread out the full chain of activities from deal origination to execution. He has participated in acquisition and divestment projects in North and South America, Europe, Middle and Far East, and acted as project manager for several of them. Mr. Donvito is responsible for Private Equity investments at Futurimpresa SGR. He began his career at Telecom Italia in their Strategy division. He has more than 12 years investments experience gained in SOFIPA, 3i Group and HSBC Bank London, where he was also involved in leveraged and infrastructure finance in Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Donvito holds an AEP from the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago and graduated in engineering at the Pisa University.

Bruno Gattai achieved broad experience in activities involving corporate and M&A transactions with particular focus on private equity. His clients include private equity funds targeting large deals or mid and small cap companies; family businesses concentrating on their holding companies; and listed and non-listed companies. He advises on a wide variety of Italian and international transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, capital contributions, spin-offs and de-mergers. He drafts and assists clients in the negotiations of incorporation deeds and by-laws, joint venture agreements, stock purchase agreements, and shareholders' agreements and coordinates the relevant due diligence activities. Mr Gattai also advises clients on hostile and non-hostile (mandatory or voluntary) takeover bids, both through public tender offers and within the framework of private transactions.
Raffaele de Courten, Founding Partner, ALTO PARTNERS SGR
In private equity since 2000. In Alto Partners, Raffaele de Courten focuses on deal origination, debt structuring and relationships with investors, with significant expertise in debt financing and corporate lending. He has particular expertise in the consumer goods, and industrial and commercial machinery sectors. Prior to joining Alto Partners, Mr. de Courten worked for the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg as the personal counsel to the Italian Executive Vice-Presiden.
Prior to joining the EIB, Mr. de Courten worked for 11 years in the corporate finance department of Mediobanca in Milan, where he first worked on equity transactions and later had responsibility for the funding strategy of the bank on the debt capital markets side as well as the organisation of debt operations for the bank's clients (including Enel, Ferrovie dello Stato, Assicurazioni Generali, Italcementi, the EIB and the World Bank). Mr. de Courten holds a degree in Business Administration from LUISS University in Rome. He is a member of AIFI's executive committee.
Paolo Gambarini, Founding Partner, WISE SGR
After 10 years working in Investment Banking (Smith New Court, Barclays and Credit Suisse First Boston), Paolo Gambarini co-founded WISE SGR in 2000, together with Michele Semenzato. The company manages private equity funds focused on the lower mid-end of the Italian market. The first two funds had sizes of 100 and 170 Million and WISE SGR is currently fundraising for its third fund (Wisequity III). Paolo holds a degree in Business Administration from the Bocconi University in Milan and is a SFA member.
Carlo Mammola, Managing and Founding Partner, ARGAN CAPITAL; Board Member EVCA and Deputy Chairman of its European Mid Market Platform Council
Carlo Mammola leads Argan's investment activity in the Italian market and heads Argan's Milan Office. Mr. Mammola has over 20 years of private equity experience and joined the Argan team in 2000. Since then he has, inter alia successfully led and realised the investments in Alfatherm and N&W Global Vending and led the investment in Faster where he is currently a board member. He is also a member of the European Mid-Market Buy-out Platform Council and a member of the Board of Directors of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA).
Before joining the Argan team, Mr. Mammola worked at Paribas Affaires Industrielles (PAI) where he was the Managing Director responsible for Italy, prior to which he worked with Sopaf, the Italian merchant bank, and the Olivetti Group. Since 1987, Mr. Mammola has been a Professor of Management at the Bocconi University in Milan and, since 1999, a member of its Advisory Committee. Mr. Mammola holds an MBA from the Bocconi University in Milan and graduated in engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin.
Claudio Siniscalco, Vice-President, HARBOURVEST PARTNERS
Claudio Siniscalco joined HarbourVest's London-based subsidiary in early 2007 and focuses on originating, evaluating, and executing direct investments in growth equity and buyout transactions, primarily in Europe. He is also involved in originating mezzanine and senior loan investments. Claudio serves as a board member of Panda Security, Polynt, and TynTec, and is actively involved with HarbourVest's investment in Acromas. Claudio's prior experience includes positions at Audley Capital, a U.K. activist investment firm, as well as Investcorp and Hicks Muse in London, and Salomon Brothers' Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York. Giovanni Tinuper, Partner, PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS
Giovanni Tinuper is a partner of the Transaction Services department of PwC in Milan and is primarily dedicated to private equity houses. From 1995 to 1996 Giovanni worked as equity analyst in London and joined PwC Transaction Services Milan in late 1996. Before moving to PwC TS Paris in 2003, Giovanni worked for two years as investment manager for a private equity fund. After more than two years in Paris, Giovanni moved back to Milan in summer 2005. Lorenzo Salieri, Buyout Partner, 3i
Lorenzo Salieri joined 3i in 1998 and currently heads the Italian buyouts team. He has led a number of successful buyouts, including Azelis, ABX- Saima Avandero, Faber, Farmigea, Novotema, Monviso and Seves-Vetroarredo. Mr. Salieri started his career in 1993 as an auditor with PWC and then worked for four years as an associate at Unicredit Banca Mobiliare in the equity capital markets department. He holds a degree in Business Economics from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and an MBA from Clemson University, USA. He is also a CFA.
Gianluca Savoldi, Managing Director, UNICREDIT GROUP
Head of Financial Sponsor Solutions Italy within UniCredit, heading a team of 13 professionals fully dedicated to coverage of the whole Italian private equity universe as well as responsible for arranging and executing LBO financing of any size. Financial Sponsor Solutions Italy has historically been a reference in the Italian LBO market being involved in any sponsor driven LBO deal regardless of deal size. Gianluca is also heading the LBO Portfolio Management team responsible of handling the LBO deals on the books with direct responsibility on monitor, as well as waive and restructure deals when necessary.
Michele Marocchino, Managing Director, LAZARD
Michele Marocchino, 39 is Managing Director in Lazard and has 12 years of experience in M&A. Among others, he recently advised La Rinascente on its debt restructuring, Bridgepoint on the restructuring of Limoni's portfolio, InvestIndustrial, Ergon Capital, Investitori Associati, Permira on M&A transactions. He also advised Nestlé on the sale of Motta and Alemagna to Bauli, TPG on the disposal of Ducati as well as Fiat Group, Prada and Finmeccanica. Michele joined Lazard in 1998 after two years in Paris at Pleyel & Cie, a small-caps consumer goods M&A boutique. Prior to that, he was analyst at JP Morgan. Michele is a contract professor since 2005 at the ESCP-EAP University in Turin. Michele holds a BSc. in Economics from Bocconi University and studied at the London School of Economics.
Eugenio Morpurgo, CEO, FINEUROP SODITIC
Eugenio Morpurgo is Managing Director and founding partner of Fineurop Soditic, company of Fineurop Group which focuses on M&A and debt advisory services. He is also a board member of Fineurop SpA. Before joining Fineurop he was Head of M&A and Privatisations at SOPAF, private financial group listed at Milan Stock Exchange. He started his career at financial group Matuschka in Munich, before moving to Deutsche Bank where he worked in the corporate finance and capital markets areas in London, Frankfurt and Milan. Eugenio Morpurgo is Professor at LUIC, University of Castellanza, for the Master in Merchant Banking. He has a degree in economics from Milan based Bocconi University.

In 1990 Mr. Bonomi established Investindustrial, the leading Southern European investment group with approximately €2.3 billion in AUM and 45 professionals. Previously Mr. Bonomi was responsible for the monitoring of Saffa group investments in Europe and the USA. He has been a director of companies such as Inversiones Ibersuizas, 21 Investimenti S.p.A. and 21 Centrale Partners. Before, he was employed at Kleinwort Benson in London, where he was responsible for Spain and Italy, and at Lazard Frères & Co. in NY. He received a BSc in Business Administration from NY University (1985), and speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish.
Nino Tronchetti Provera, CEO, AMBIENTA SGR
Nino Tronchetti Provera graduated at Luiss (Rome) and gained a MBA at Insead (Fontainebleau). Formerly in McKinsey, since he graduated in 1991 he dealt with environmental business, founding in 1997 Cam Tecnologie (Camfin Group), now Pirelli Eco Technologies, developing several “green” businesses among which Gecam, a low environmental impact fuel. He was among the founders of the Kyoto Club, which he chaired from 1999 to 2004. He also covered several roles in Telecom Group: CEO and Deputy Chairman in Finsiel (from 2002 to 2004) and General Manager in Olivetti (2007).
In 2007 Mr. Tronchetti Provera founded Ambienta Sgr, the first Italian asset management company created to invest exclusively in the environmental sector. The first fund, Ambienta I, is the largest European private equity fund devoted to the environmental business, as far as collected capital is concerned (€ 217.5 mln).
Edoardo Lanzavecchia, Partner and CEO, ALPHA ASSOCIATI
Edoardo Lanzavecchia is partner and CEO of Alpha Italy. Edoardo began his career in ABB as Export Manager in the Energy Division, in 1991 he was a strategic consultant with the Mac Group. In 1992 he joined SO.PA.F. as Partner, where he managed the firm’s direct private equity investments as well as its private equity partnership. In 1998 he founded and was head of The Carlyle Group Italy. During his career he was author of some topical deals like the acquisition of Fiat Avio (aerospace) in 2003 for 1.6 billion Euros, that sold 3 years later for 2.5 billion Euros. Edoardo has Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico in Milan, and MBA from Bocconi University in Milan.

John Singer joined Advent International in 1993. He was a founding member of Advent's Executive Committee and is currently Chairman, Europe.John has more than 24 years of private equity experience and has served as Chairman of the European Venture Capital Association. He has led transactions primarily in the business services and media sectors, including Venere.com, Argenta, Financial Dynamics, Elior, Alexander Mann Group and Colofon.
Prior to Advent, John was Managing Director of Granville Europe AG, a subsidiary of investment bank Granville Holdings. He also worked as a senior consultant at McKinsey & Co., spent five years in corporate finance and ran several turnaround businesses. Giuseppe is responsible for deal management, evaluation and execution. Giuseppe spent four years as an Investment Analyst at Merrill Lynch before joining Greenpark Capital in 2007. Fabio Sattin co founded Private Equity Partners in 1989, becaming within a few years one of the principal and most well recognised institutions on the Italian and international market. Steve Cahill, Senior Vice President, MONUMENT GROUP
Monument Group was established in 1994 and is a leading independent placement agent with offices in Boston and London. Over the last 15 years the firm has helped its client raise more than $67bn for a range of alternative investment strategies ranging from buyouts to energy and real estate. Recent fund closes include the €2bn Altor Fund III and the $1bn Cerberus Institutional Partners International (Series One).
Mr. Cahill joined Monument Group (UK) in 2006. Prior to this, he served as Associate at Helix, a private equity placement firm based in London. Mr Cahill worked primarily on fund due diligence and also had specific client responsibilities. In 2002 Mr. Cahill co-founded a media start-up which is now operational in Australia. Before this he worked for Fast Track, servicing private equity sponsors with deal flow opportunities. He was an employee and Scholar of Arthur Andersen between 1997 and 2001, during which time he worked in its Assurance and Business Advisory, VAT and Customs, Corporate Finance and Transfer Pricing departments. Mr. Cahill received a first class honours degree in Economics and Management from Oxford University.
Michele Semenzato, Founding Partner, WISE SGR
After being a manager in Bain and Company and an executive director at ABN Amro M&A department, Michele Semenzato founded Wise in 2000, Private Equity operator with an Italian SMEs focus, together with Paolo Gambarini. Wise has since invested two funds, Wisequity (fully divested) and Wisequity II and is currently fundraising Wisequity III. Michele Semenzato holds an Electrical Engineering degree and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Marco joined Vestar Capital, a leading US Private Equity firm, in 2001 and was instrumental in setting up Vestar Capital’s operation in Europe. Rhonda Ryan, Managing Director and Head of Private Funds Group Europe, PINEBRIDGE INVESTMENTS
Ms. Ryan joined Pinebridge Investments in 2006. In addition to heading the European private funds group, Ms. Ryan focuses on private equity investment activities on a global basis. Her responsibilities include evaluating and meeting with private capital fund managers, making investment recommendations and monitoring the performance of the private capital portfolios. From 2001-2006, she was Head of Private Equity at Insight Investment. Ms. Ryan's investment experience began in 1992 and since 1997 her experience has included private equity investing in Europe and the United States. Raymond Abbott, Managing Director, ALLIANCE TRUST EQUITY PARTNERS
Raymond Abbott is Head of Private Equity for Alliance Trust and the Managing Director of Alliance Trust’s private equity division, Alliance Trust Equity Partners Ltd. After qualifying from Edinburgh University, Raymond trained as a Chartered Accountant and became an Insolvency Practitioner with KPMG between 1980 and 1987. In 1987 he joined Bank of Scotland and was one of the Bank’s team in their move into MBO debt funding. Raymond moved into private equity in 1991 with Friends, Ivory & Sime and covered MBOs, Development Capital and Venture Capital. After building up a portfolio of venture investments with British Linen Bank in 1999 he then founded Albany Venture Managers in 2000 and raised a fund in 2002 focused on Healthcare and IT. Alliance Trust acquired Albany Ventures in 2006 in order to add private equity experience and Raymond is now implementing a long term private equity investment program for the Trust.
Robert Tomei, Chairman and Founding Partner, ADVANCED CAPITAL
Robert Tomei is Chairman and CEO of Advanced Capital Group. He is responsible for the approval of every Group investment, for evaluation and investments in Venture Capital, Private Equity, Secondary and Debt Strategy partnerships. Some of his investments include partnerships such as NEA, ACCEL, Blackstone, BC Partners, Whitney, Summit, TPG, Bain, Cerberus and Matlin Patterson. Robert Tomei received his degree ad honorem in Logic and Analytical Studies from St. Bonaventure University and pursued his graduate studies in the same fields at both Yale and Columbia Universities. Prior to joining the firm he was a private equity investment manager within Munich Re Group. Before that, Marco was with Montagu Private Equity, a pan-European mid market manager focusing on direct investments. He began his career in the private equity practice of L.E.K. advising GPs on buyout transactions. Marco studied at the London School of Economics, University of Cologne and WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management and holds an MBA and a PhD in economics.

Jean-Philippe is overseeing the EIF Lower Mid-Market Fund Investments activity and portfolio, and managing the EUR 1bn Mezzanine Facility for Growth (MFG) fund-of-funds program from the European Investment Bank (EIB). He joined the EIF in 2000 and has 12 years of relevant fund-of-funds experience. His professional background is Investment Banking and Long Term Credit within the EIB (1995-2000) and the Paris-based Credit National, now Natixis, (1984-1995). He his an Engineer graduated from Ecole Polytechnique; a graduate from Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique and has a Mater’s Degree from Université Paris IX Dauphine.
